Quite honestly I prefer the ergonomics and audio quality of my IPEVO FR-33 versus the Philips but it's lack of a cord storage solution causes the unusually long cable to get tangled up in my laptop bag. The Philips solves this with a unique wraparound storage compartment on the back of the handset. If you're using the phone with your laptop the Philips is probably a better choice but if the cord problem doesn't concern you I'd recommend the IPEVO. That said, both models work well and are reasonably priced.

Considering the price (much cheaper than most other wifi skype phones), and the fact that I've never heard of IPEVO, I have been very pleasantly surprised with this phone. I previously had the Netgear Skype Phone (not the WiFi one) and it was OK, but not great and very quirky.

This new phone is a million times better and so simple to use. I had it set up and working literally five minutes after I took it out of the box, it was a snap.

After reading the other reviews here I made a point of going straight to the IPEVO website and updating the software and firmware immediately, and it obviously made a difference because the call quality I have been getting is amazing. I'd say it's as good, if not better, than my land line and absolutely NO echo.

My only "complaint" is I wish the ear-bud was better, but then I've never ever had one that was any good from any manufacturer and frankly I don't know why they even bother with them. This phone would be absolutely perfect if it had Bluetooth connectivity to use an ear-piece with it.

So far so good and I'm a very happy customer. I just hope it lasts! Based on some of these reviews I'm not so confident in IPEVO as a company, but as long as the phone keeps on working the way it does now I shouldn't ever have to deal with them!

After what I believed to be thorough investigation, I purchased TWO Asus SV1T videophones. When I plugged in the power and network cable, I marveled at how easy the device was to use. Then I tried to connect via Wifi.

Unfortunately, it was only at this point that I discovered a long documented history of problems with the Asus videophone and Wifi connection. I read every comment I could find and tried every trick in the book to get the videophone to connect to my network via Wifi, ultimately a Sisyphean task.

As a previous Skype forum poster noted, for the price, this appliance really should be "fool proof" and "just work." I am sure the vast majority of users want to connect via wifi, rather than cable, so it seems the connectivity issue should have been something addressed and resolved quite some time ago. Yet, I haven't been able to find any satisfactory resolution posted to this or any other forum on any website.

I will call Taiwan tomorrow with a Chinese interpreter on the line and try to get someone to help address this issue. But I am not hopeful.

Why We Like Vonage - Internet Phone Review

I have seen (and heard) was "whoo hoo, whoo - hoo - hoo" ads now for several years (Vonage) and has not been paying much attention. Several years ago we removed our home land and go "just a phone." I know many people who do the same. Our phone bill used to be $ 60 - $ 70 per month. Because we do not have to go far behind. What I noticed is that even when my phone is complete (and ring) - I do not answer it. I miss manycalls. Sometimes I leave the car ... or my mantle ... or my pants. It's something that can be said to be only a phone hanging on the wall in the same place every time you need it.

Now that I have had experience "does not have a land line" for 2 + years, I started thinking about the value of a home phone "." I clearly do not have to pay another $ 60-70 per month for the privilege because I only pay $ 105 per month for 3 phone cell with 1500 minutes and unlimited IMnow. Well, I saw that "whoo-hoo-hoo" ads on TV a few weeks back and hit a Chord for a specific reason - "$ 24.95 per month for unlimited calls ..." Really? Unlimited? As I can call anyone, anywhere for free, anywhere in the United States 24 hours a day seven days a week free? I went to their website, and that is what they say. And also say that you can start for only $ 9.95 (which also seems to good to be true).

Well, what my purpose is that you can get the equipment "as needed" to just$ 9.99. I did not see much to Vonage before because apparently when out you need a special type of "Internet phone" to make it work. You can not use a regular phone from a shop. That can not be further from the truth now. With a small adapter that comes with the service you just plug in the land of ordinary telephone lines and copper lines and work as your local baby bell! In fact, this little device is the ID number - AND (my personalfavorite) came out with a LAN jack ... which means that once you plug the phone and LAN cable from your router have an additional ethernet port in the device which basically acts as a switch. You can use it to plug laptop and XBOX 360 (or classical), PC, Mac, whatever! I know, I have geeked out a little in this regard, but I think it cool. The only lack to get the device to the fact that $ 9.99 is your key to the one year contract with Vonage. If not, youmust pay $ 70 dollars to the ridiculous. I took my chance, I thought to pour thousands of Verizon for many years as well.

So I ordered this "internet phone adapter, they call it" Vonage V-Portal ", which essentially is an adapter to convert a regular phone for internet use, the caller ID device, and a port router as well. I have to pay for shipping, the first month of my service, taxes, and I think, about $ 52 for me to get started. UPS delivered about four days adapterlater and I are ready to begin! We have purchased 5.8 GHz cordless phone with 3 swing for use with Vonage. I have filled them 24 hours before we all Hooked up. We decided that the best place for mobile phone unit and the central portal, Vonage is in our living room. Fortunately a corner room had a hole in the floor so I have run a long ethernet cable 100 feet from home at the end of the crypt(Sky, sky) through the floor into the living room.

When I take place outside of the box Vonage's right on the paper told me to switch off before plugging in the router so I ran down and turn off the cable modem and router. I returned to my phone attached to the wall, and place of Vonage. I installed the ethernet in the Vonage box, and then plugged into the wall where Vonage (last Case). Vonage goes places such as Christmas trees, large orange displays a rotating globe, saying "connecting". It seems to take about 10 minutes to get the IP address, configure itself, download the uPDAte from Vonate, disable, and restart. Then the show just go to the date and time and feel ready to go! I get the phone and call my wife at work, and we spoke for about 10 minutes. I have never been able to distinguish between Vonage Internet phone and a traditional copper-based land> Phone line. We ran several tests where we download all kinds of things when using the phone - but it never seems to lower the quality of the call. Perhaps a different Internet connection will produce different results, but we had no problems and is now just over a month. Now, I do not think a lot of it - is just as common land line for me.

With Vonage you can do something really cool that you can not do with land lines. Vonage isportable, and can work on every Internet connection, anywhere. The unique thing about this is that you can disconnect the Vonage adapter, and your phone and take with you anywhere there is broadband connection and LAN cable. Install, and you will be able to send and receive calls as you have at home! In fact, when calling your friends and family - they will know that you are not at home! We went for the weekend, and staying in a motel with free wireless internet. When wearrived at our room, I just installed my Lan cable to the Vonage, and in relation to the fast and ready to go! I made phone calls to try and work like charm. Imagine if you need to visit your parents or other relatives for the weekend. You can load your phone with you as long as they have broadband internet!

Vonage has a different adapter, the new one if the mobile Internet in a flash memory stick. Obviously your Computer or laptopinto the phone to go! You will be able to continue from Vonage Vonage.com like me - but check eBay first bid! You never know - you may be able to get the starter kit with a very reasonable price!

Bought this product for my 84 year old mother in Florida. She isnt very good with computers. I had my sister help with the broadband andinitial setup. We were talking and seeing each other in one hour. I live in the midwest and cant afford to travel to see her. My mother cried the first time we used the vidiophone. Since then her contact list keeps growing. Cant wait for a newer model. Unit has its imperfections, but there is no alternative. As Skype has become more widely use by many people, much more than one or two friends, I've moved from using it on my laptop and then on my iphone, into using on my desk. I bought this phone to use skype without computer. Easy to get started. Since I had SKYPE ID, in less than 2 minutes I was able to get started and make phone calls.

Speaker phone is clear and LCD display is great.

Only drawback, I saw changing the time zone. Even after time zone was set and when you restart, it goes to default.

In short, a good equipment for decent price.

When I liberated the handset from the packaging, I was amazed at its diminutive size and I was wondering how well the phone ergonomics work. As it turns out, it could be better. The keypad is small, so small you need to focus on where your fingertip pushes. The keypad lettering is difficult to see and the key backlighting is ineffective in brighter ambient lighting situations.

Sound quality seems to be fair to good, volume is adequate unless you are in a noisy location. I have not experienced any of the echo cancellation problems mentioned by others, perhaps the latest firmware addressed this problem.

As others have reported, one time I had to re-enter my router's security key even though the device was never in a low/no battery situation. This is a bit of a hassle given the fact you need to cycle each key to enter the correct character.

The color screen is reasonably easy to see given its relatively low resolution.

Bottom line: if there would have been a better product out there, I would have purchased it instead of the IPEVO. As far as I could tell from my research, this is the best Skype WiFi phone with integrated Skype software on the market today. The IPEVO is begging for a more worthy competitor to be released into the marketplace. When it happens, this phone will live the rest of its life in a drawer.

VOIP stands for Voice-over-protocol Internet. On the very policies that the idea of using a data network to transfer voice between two points. There are two main types of equipment used for delivery of VoIP. Am returning phone tomorrow. After 2 and a half hours on the phone with Netgear Customer Support ("level 2 technicians), I could not get the phone to recognize my Belkin Pre-n router at home (even after disabling security, changing channels, disabling pre-n mode). I went to Starbucks to try connecting there. Managed to get a signal but phone would not permit me to sign in to Skype - received same error msg about unrecognized numerical character in my Skype sign in name (there are no numerical characters in my sign-in name). Can't comment on call quality as I have not been able to sign in. How disappointing.

Maybe Belkin will get it right with their Nov 06 release.

This product did not work inside my home. I tried all the tips I could find but it would not connect. I wrote to support and followed the suggestions (they were a little slow in responding) and it still would not connect. The phone would see the network but would not connect to it. I found as others have rated that it felt really lite which can be good or bad depending on the circumstance. I never got the change to actually make a call on the phone because of the connection problem. All in all I am not sure if this would be a good investment for someone that does not have good connection in their home.

After reading all of the positive reviews I decided to try out this phone. My experiences were quite different with it.

First of all the phone was not plug and play by any means. It did not come with Vista software, and I had to mess around with drivers online for nearly an hour before I could get it to work. I also had to change skype settings before getting it to work.

Secondly the phone is just cheaply made, and you can tell just by picking it up that it feels like a toy.

The phone's plastic base is really a joke. It easily moves around on your desk and the phone does not sit properly in it with the cord unwound. This was very frustrating. The USB cord also feels like it would easily break under stress.

As for the calling experience there is a delay between the time the button is pressed and when it shows up in skype, so if you are used to dialing quickly you will be fumbling over numbers with this phone.

One of the only things I can recommend about this phone is that the sound quality while making calls was fairly good, but not great. Sounded to me like a cheap land-line house phone.

Another frustrating problem that I ran into was that when skype was running, all of the sounds coming from my pc (for example: when playing an mp3 in iTunes) were being routed through the phone. I had to change the settings in skype every time I wanted to listen to music, play games etc.

If you want something that feels and looks like a regular house phone but makes skype calls you may be dissapointed like I was. I'd recommend taking a hard look at the competition before considering this one. In my opinion I feel it was not worth the money.

I gave the ASUS Skype Video Phone Touch SV1TS to my parents as a Christmas gift last year. They like to Skype with my sister and her family, but the computer is located in the basement. They do not want the computer upstairs, but it is often too cold in the basement to stay down there long on a Skype call. They put this videophone in the living room and now they are "Skyping" more than ever! It acts just like a telephone, taking messages and ringing when someone is calling. It appears to go into a power-saving mode when not in use, so now my parents can be online and "available" all the time. They are very happy with being able to see their grandchildren whenever they want. I am very pleased with the quality of the picture and webcamera. Overall, it was probably the best Christmas present given by anyone in my family last year :)!!

The "phone" itself is not bad, but is by no means cordless. It most certainly needs to be attached to my computer by a flimsy USB cable that is permanently attached to the "phone". Yes, the base is cordless, but it is just a little piece of plastic to hold the CORDED phone in an upright position when you are not using it. I guess that I should have known better than to expect a cordless phone for this price. It's too bad that they lied in the description of the product!!!! Please update the description so that others won't be deceived into buying a product that might not be what they were expecting. I expect better from you, Amazon!!!

After reading all the other bad review's I decided to order it anyway and find out for myself; mine works great.
It finds and connects easily to networks and the standby and talk time are as advertised. I just made a 35 minute call after the unit had been standby for a couple of hours and the battery showed a 75 percent charge still. After having it on standby again for about an hour it showed almost full again.
The unit does get warm when used for talking but not annoyingly so.
I can only recommend it.

I was very disappointed in the phone and the support is abysmal. I don't know why I should have to load a firmware update from 2007 on a new phone. The phone disconnected from my wi-fi every 10 to 15 minutes. The battery life was only 3 to 4 hours, so not much good as a wireless phone. Overall a very poorly implemented product which sadly doesn't seem to have had any improvements since release a few years ago.
