I have had this product for a month now and have used it to call people all over the USA and have not had any problems. My secure wireless connection at home is on 24/7 and I can pick up my Belkin Wi-Fi phone at any time and it never once did not make a connect. Set up was way too easy. I got into the Skype plan when they offered $14.95 unlimited calls to USA and Canada for a year. Great plan and great phone. Two of my friends that have used it are going to get one.

I tried this after having used the D-Link DPH-50U devices, seeing that this looked like the same thing only cheaper. So needing a 3rd one I thought I'd try it out and see if I could save money.

Setup of the Eforcity is very easy. It uses Skypemate software to link with Skype and their isnt really anything to do exept put the cd in and install it. The cd came with the latest drivers on it.

However, the audio quality with this device is subpar. Their is a constant static in the backround, it is a soft persistant noise that is annoying. You can still hear voices fine, they are not garbled, but that backround static noise gets bothersome. Compared to the D-Link DPH-50U which is crystal clear I will pay the extra $20 for the D-Link one.

I swaped this Eforcity device out with the D-Link one so I know it wasnt a computer or network issue.

I would recommend spending the extra $20 for the D-Link version or some other one without the static. Make sure if you are behind a firewall or NAT router of any kind that you port forward your router for skype,or else skype will use your web browsers default port 80 or 443, though skype is designed to work without port forwarding (NAT transversal)it will sound terrible no matter what device you use.

Am not sure if my expectations were simply too high (after waiting so long...) or the phone is just not good. But the conclusion is that I'm disappointed. Yes, sound quality is satisfying and it's compact, but other than that, there's just nothing above average. And in a tech-oriented world where iPod and Nokia are setting the standards for design and build quality, that's just not good enough. The SPH101 feels like a prototype put together in a hurry (probably was). It falls flat in many areas: The screen is tiny, battery life is a joke (16 min talk time!) and it gets too hot. Most importantly, however, it looses connection to the wireless network and and/or Skype every other day. Not certain if there's anything else to blame for (my Netgear router?) but anyway, this phone is going back.

I decided to buy this because with my laptop, often I missed skype incoming calls. Sometimes I was using the laptop on the sofa and my headset was back at the desk, or maybe I couldn't hear skype ring because the headset was plugged in but I wasn't wearing it.
After buying the IPEVO S0-20 Wi-Fi, I can pick up that call that I would have missed before. It is always on, always rings, always ready to receive.
If I am talking to a "real" phone (land or mobile), the person on the other end says it sounds great. If I am talking to a person making a skype call on a computer, the other person hears a distracting echo. Even if I use a headset with the phone, a skype caller still hears a bad echo. This is from my experience, not a scientific test. From reviewer comments, the sound is much, much better than other earlier models of skype wifi phones.
I haven't had much success using it outside the house, because everyone locks their wifi nowadays; nothing the phone can do about that.
Others complain about no browser authentication or no speakerphone; those issues are true, but haven't been a drawback for me.
So if you need it mostly for home (or have wifi passwords for where you go), and talk mostly with non-skype people, it works perfect.

The design is refreshingly simple and elegant, feels more like a cell phone, is a breeze to set up and pleasure to use - when it works! Every few minutes it disconnects from the router and then you have to enter Skype user name and password again, even though it is supposed to have saved those. Netgear technical support rep informed me that the Firmware upgrade is in the offing. If the bugs are fixed, it could be a good product although it costs a lot more than the comparable Belkin phone for Skype. I have used Skype on a Pocket PC but the voice quality on Netgear phone is far superior, almost close to a regular land line phone.

Update (May 9, 2007): Having used this phone for more than 5 months, I do not think this product is usable as a regular phone. Battery life is very low, the phone keeps disconnecting from Skype service and firmware upgrade has not fixed the problem.

Skype service is OK but dealing with Skype business is like dealing with a Merchant from Hell! Their acceptance of Credit cards is very erratic, there is no phone number to call to resolve problem (ironic for a telephony merchant!)and they do not respond to emails!

Since ipevo is not a well-known company, I felt it was useful too have yet another positive report. It was a breeze to set up and use. Was there any thing that prevented it from getting 5 stars? Not really, but I don't want to be too enthusiastic until I have used it for a while.

Integration with Skype is good -- the interface has been adapted very well for the phone's form factor. CORRECTION: you can dial phone numbers directly -- earlier, I was looking for some option on the menu for dialing a number, but all you do is to dial the number and press the send button. I think you need to include the area code as well.

Freebies are not being included any more with this product.

I bought this product with caution, aware that not all of the reviews for it were positive.

To me, the major complaints seemed exaggerated.

Some reviews complained of cheap plastic, but it seems sturdy to me, even if it's not solid polycarbonate.

Other reviews complained of problems with the handset being hard to place on the unit. This also seems unsubstantiated to me; I have had no such difficulties.

I called my mom on speaker phone, and I had a 15 minute conversations at varying distances from the phone (up to 10 feet away) without any loss of clarity for her. So, I'm not sure why some complained about the speaker phone experience.

You do have to press 00 before every call, unless you're dialing a contact, but this wasn't a major drawback in my opinion.

In summary, this phone does exactly what I wanted it to do: it acts as a simple, cheap land-line replacement that doesn't need to be connected to my computer.

I purchased this to replace a vonage phone, which despite working well was just too expensive for a Voip phone. The idea of a wifi phone is great, however the belkin implementation falls down on:
- very very poor voice quality on anything but a perfect high speed link (awful compared to vonage or skype on a PC on the same link)
- very short battery life (though at least it is USB chargeable)
- No skype messaging support (not even receive)
- No software updates for 18 months to fix the above (appears to be a dead product)
In addition the user interface is pretty clunky. I would stay away from this product and use one of the cordless products instead - they work much better. Hopefully someone will implement a decent wifi skype phone soon (or implement a decent client for the iphone!!)

The sound quality of Skype via Wif-fi with the Belkin phone shows 2 serious problems: Delay and echo. The quality is poorer than normal Skype quality (which is not always great to begin with). The sound quality is so poor that I cannot use the phone as much as I intended.

With the wifi phone, there is at least a 1-second delay in outgoing direction.

2. Echo
There is a serious echo in outgoing direction

I have tested with 2 different wi-fi base stations (both with WEP encryption). I have the same problems with both.

I am not a "review" person but I felt compelled to post my review after reading the one-star review. It's all too often that people jumping to conclusion on new technology or new product without thoroughly investigating the issues. How I know? Because I am a Network Engineer.

Here is my story: I grew tired of lugging a laptop around the house just to talk on the Skype, so I started shopping for a Skype phone. The design of other brand names was a big turn off until I saw Ipevo S0-20 featured in an article from gizmodo.com. The design was both attractive and functional. I thought to myself: well, this is it.

I ordered through Amazon.com and it came quickly. The first impression was good: the LCD is vibrant and bright, the menu is straight forward, the button response is solid and they are easy to press without making mistakes. Though the size is a little small (even for an Asian) and I had to wrap my fingers around. I was delighted when I quickly established connection to my five-year "OLD" Netgear wireless router. I called wife and the voice quality was great! She could hear me loud and clear and same went for me. I have been using the phone every evening for one to two hours constant talking since I got it and it has been an awesome phone. One thing I noticed that the phone may not get charged unless it is turned off. It's not a big deal as I usually turn off the phone each night and leave it in the cradle.

I think my laptop is happy too because it is freed from the Skype duty!

The phone works but it does tend to drop out if you move around too much while you are using it. We have a lot of thicker walls in our house so it may be that we need something with a bit more power. If you don't want to be tied to a computer to make your Skype calls, this is a good phone to have. Setup was easy. Audio quality is indistinguishable from a regular phone (according to the people we call with it). If you make a few hours of calls on it each day, make sure to replace it in the charger. The battery runs down quicker than a cordless phone, but it's not bad. WiFi (this phone) uses more power than cordless phones is my guess.

I have used a Netgear SPH200D for a couple of years. This Belkin Skype phone uses an slightly updated version of the firmware of the Netgear phone. I have had the Belkin for 1/2 a day and feel I must address some of the concerns I saw in some of the previous reviews I read here.

1) The phone is light in weight BUT NOT so much that it gets drag around the table. It is fine.
2) The speaker phone works so well that many times I expect I may not even pick up the handset.
3) The handset DOES seat itself very well in the cradle. I don't know if this is a design change since the early versions reviewed by others but mine clicks solidly in place with a hook/catch arrangement very securely. In fact it does this so well, you have to be careful to slide it up before moving away from the phone body.
4) The display is brighter than my SPH200D and has additional menus including a selection for logging into more than one account quickly.
5) Finding a contact in a long list is the same and as painless as my SPH200D (less painful as there is clearly a faster CPU in this phone), you enter a couple of letters from the numeric keypad and with each key press the phone filters your contacts to only those containing those letters. Works great.
6) Quality of the plastic: It's no high end top-of-the-line cell phone type build quality but it is pretty good and definitely good enough to have sitting on your desk.
7) The unit is fairly petite. I view this is positive as it does not take up too much desk space.
8) Pretty much ALL Skype phones I am aware of (Netgear SPH200D and Belkin WiFi phone that I own as well as this phone) all put calls through to voicemail after 3 rings (if you enable the voicemail forwarding that can be disabled at anytime even if you have a voicemail active).
9) Voice quality is excellent. This was my biggest concern and after reading reviews of this phone and the IPEVO desk phone, I went with the Belkin and don't regret it at all! I saw some concerns on the IPEVO and while I never tried one, that was one criticism I saw. The Belkin sound quality is great EITHER through the handset or through the Speaker phone.

The bad? Not much...
(1) It did reboot once when I was switching between 2 Skype accounts I have but it rebooted and came straight back on line and lost no data or account info.
(2) You do have to enter +1 and 3 digit area code. Some Skype phones force you to do this and some don't. This is NOT much of an issue as most of the time you'll dial from the contacts list and don't have to worry about the country/area code.

4/5 stars in my view and if you are concerned about this solution I would suggest "don't be". I have SkypeIn/SkypeOut, Voicemail all operating fine with great audio quality and the ergonomics aren't bad either.

UPDATE:
Minor "Cons":
a) The main display tells you how many missed calls or voicemails you have but there is no separate notification light to notify that you have a voicemail and the main display turns off after 1-5 minutes depending on your settings (you can't have it left on). The SPH200D has this. This makes it tough to tell if you have a voicemail with a quick glance at the phone after being away for a while... you have to reach over & touch any button to turn the display on to see.

b) The "mood message" seems to get deleted when I log into the same account from a PC. The SPH200D does not do this (unless the Vista version of Skype handles this better than the XP version).

I recommend this product for videoconferencing through skype. The sound and the video are very clear. But the battery seems to to be very weak. You cannot talk more than 30 minutes without charging the device.
